Why You’ll Love This Recipe

When I was growing up, steaks were a special occasion meal. So, when I want to treat myself to a nice dinner to celebrate something, I always think of steaks. Filet mignon is the cream of the crop, cut from the tender ends of a beef tenderloin.

Now, if you’re worried about messing up the cooking of an expensive steak, don’t. The air fryer is going to do the hard work for you, so there’s no getting the pan to just the right temperature required.

You can still adjust based on how done you like your steak as well, so don’t worry! Regardless, cooking time is almost always less than 20 minutes, making this convenient enough for dinner even on weeknights.

What You’ll Need: Ingredients

ingredients to make bacon wrapped filet in the air fryer
  • 4 Filet mignon steaks (petite; about 3 oz each)
  • 4 Strips bacon
  • ½ Tbsp olive oil
  • 2 Tbsp Montreal steak seasoning (or your favorite)

Optional Garlic Herb Butter

  • 2 Tbsp salted butter (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • ¼ tsp salt

Equipment Note: You’ll need toothpicks, cooking twine, or some silicone cooking bands to secure the bacon around the filets.

Ingredient Notes and Tips

  • I find that regular (not thick cut) bacon works best for this, but feel free to use what you like. You can even swap in turkey bacon if preferred!
  • Use any steak seasoning you like (and make sure to add salt and pepper if your blend doesn’t have it)
  • The garlic and herb compound butter is optional, but adds a nice finishing touch. You can swap in other herbs and seasonings as well if you’d like!

Recipe FAQs

What Temperature Do You Air Fry Filet Mignon?

You air fry filet mignon at a temperature of between 375°F and 400°F. Lower temperatures help avoid burning, especially if bacon or a rub with sugar is used.

For simple filet mignon, use a higher temperature to reduce cooking time and sear the meat.

How Long Do You Cook a Filet Steak in an Air Fryer?

You cook a filet steak in an air fryer for anywhere from 9-15 minutes on average. This ranges from medium rare to medium well doneness. Times will vary based on the size and thickness of your filet, as well as your specific air fryer.

Your best option is to cook for 6 minutes, flip the steak, then check with a thermometer every couple minutes of additional cooking time for desired doneness.

Why Is Filet Mignon Wrapped in Bacon?

Filet is wrapped in bacon, as the bacon provides additional fat and flavor to the filet steak when cooking.

It also cooks in about the same amount of time, making it easy to deliver a perfectly cooked combination.

Recipe Pro Tips

  • If you want your bacon extra crispy but don’t want your steak well done, pre-cook the bacon by itself for 5 minutes in the air fryer before wrapping it around the filets
  • You can easily halve or double this recipe for less or more people
  • My filets were perfect after 12 minutes total in a Ninja Dual air fryer, which was medium well on the thinnest one and medium on the thick ones (as there is natural variation in size). They were all incredibly tender and juicy. Other air fryers will vary slightly

Storage and Reheating

  • Leftover filet may be stored in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. You may also freeze for up to 6 months, but it will lose moisture over time
  • Reheat bacon wrapped filet in the air fryer for 6-8 minutes at 350°F, turning halfway, or until heated through
