Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Warm summer nights call for backyard barbecues and a crisp glass of sangria with dinner! What better way to embrace the season than with fresh fruit? The juicy peaches in this wine punch add sweetness and beautiful bold colors.

While traditionally sangria has a base of red wine, we’re using a lighter-bodied white wine to better balance the delicate flavors of peach and ginger. It’s still sangria, and still delicious!

You can tweak and balance the ingredients to your liking as well, so if you want more juice, more fruit, or less sugars, just adjust as needed. It’s a very adaptable recipe, but always refreshing!

What You’ll Need: Ingredients

ingredients to make ginger peach sangria
  • 1 750-mL bottle dry white wine of choice (I’m using Pinot Grigio)
  • ½ cup peach schnapps liquor
  • 2 cups ginger beer
  • 1 ½  cups peach juice or nectar (such as Simply Peach)
  • 3-4 ripe peaches (depending on size), pitted and cut into wedges
  • 1 lemon, sliced and seeds removed

Ingredient Tips and Substitutions

  • Any dry or semi-dry white wine works great (and it doesn’t need to be expensive either) so choose your favorite!
  • You can swap the peach schnapps for apricot schnapps, peach or apricot brandy, plain brandy, or anything similar
  • If you use ginger ale instead of ginger beer it will work fine, but the ginger flavor won’t be as prominent
  • The peach juice can be swapped out for a juice mix, white peach juice, white grape juice, or lemonade if preferred (but the peach juice helps add more flavor)!

Recipe FAQs

Do You Leave Rind on Fruit For Sangria?

Yes, you leave rind on fruit for sangria. You should, however, wash the fruit thoroughly before cutting it and adding it to your drink.

This will help ensure you’re not adding any contaminants to your sangria.

Should I Make Sangria the Night Before?

Sangria can be made the night before if desired, but doesn’t have to be. The longer it sits, the softer the fruit gets as it absorbs more alcohol.

Depending on your preferred texture and how you like to enjoy your sangria, this may change the amount of time you want to let it sit.

The minimum time it should soak is about 2 hours, while the normal maximum is 24 hours before consuming.

What is Peach Sangria Made Of?

Peach sangria is made of white wine as the base, with peach juice, peach liquor, and fresh peaches being the most common additions.

Other fresh fruit is often added, such as strawberries or raspberries, which offer complimentary flavors.

Variations of flavors beyond just peach might include ginger, lemon, grape, or other flavors that pair well.

What Wine Makes the Best Sangria?

The most common choices for the best sangria wine are Pinot Noir for a red sangria and Pinot Grigio for a white sangria.

That said, each can be made with other wines. Typically, dry bodied wines are used, as they help offset the sweetness of the added fruit and juices.

Recipe Pro Tips

  • The longer the sangria sits in the fridge the softer but more flavorful the peaches will become
  • If you don’t want lemon slices floating in your sangria along with your peaches, just squeeze the lemon juice into the pitcher with the other liquids and discard the rinds
  • You don’t need to chill the wine beforehand, since it will be sitting in the fridge to soak for a couple hours anyway

Storage Tips

  • Store sangria in the refrigerator in a lidded pitcher or similar container. It should last up to 5 days if properly stored, though the fruit will continue to get mushier as time goes on
